The Sudden Shock
Shock Horror, my world is upside down!
You hear it all the time, ‘she’s divorced’, ‘he’s just divorced his wife’, ‘he left her’, ‘she left him’, we are all desensitised to the word divorce, but certainly not to the feelings associated with your existence, your reason for going to work everyday, your home, your family, and your life being flipped on its head.
Whether you found the problem guys, or your wife told you to go, whichever way it happened, inevitably, there is a great deal of shock involved.
The question is “How do you FEEL about it?”
Without even knowing it, the men of our society have been persuaded to keep their emotions and feelings locked up so tight that even they don’t know that they’re there. So now when faced with a life changing experience, men have more work to do than ever before thought. Not only do you have to deal with the physical separation, and the financial separation, and the complete change of routine, but you also have an incredible emotional mountain to climb.
Where do you start, to deal with your FEELINGS? Here is what I suggest.
We all feel things, we all have intense emotions, no matter whether you have noticed it before or not. The first thing to do is to accept that you are feeling a lot of emotions. Sounds simple, but for many men out there, that is the hardest mental action to take. You may need some help, and I would highly recommend a Self-Image Coach to help you do this. Just talking to someone who is asking the right questions, will help you a great deal to accept this fact.
The second step is to write down what you are feeling. Put pen to paper, and give words to the emotions running loops around your mind and body. Again if the first step was difficult and you needed help, you may need help for this second step as well.
The third step is where you will need help if you want to do it quickly. You need to eliminate the power of these emotions. Some people use ‘talk therapy’ and counseling to take the power out of their negative emotions, so that they can get on with making rational decisions. However, this takes a long time and a lot of dollars, which you may not have. Step One Training and Education have Self-Image Coaches who will work with you, to very quickly take the power out of the negative emotions. They use a technique called EFT and it is basically emotional or psychological acupressure. The results are quick, so you can leave the session clear and rational. Just the way men like to be.
Separation and divorce are always difficult, change is always difficult, but if you take a little emotional action, and take the power away from all the negative emotions, you will be able to get through the rough times a whole lot smoother.
